Sicily: exploring Aeolian islands through ancient routes,  stunning sunsets and gorgeous views.

8 days/ 7 nights

This tour will explore some of the Aeolian Isles north of Sicily in the Tyrrenian sea, ideal destination for an holiday on foot. Astonishingly beautiful and extremely varied they were designated a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2000. Our base will be Lipari, the largest of the seven inhabited Aeolian Islands, rich in beautiful views, a gorgeous nature and important archeological remains. Lipari has also been famous since ancient times for the Kaolin quarries whose use was known since the Greek era (4th-3rd century BC). We will get to know its history by visiting the site and breathing its magical atmosphere. The isle is also famous for the Pumice quarries whose bright white stone gives the sea an extraordinarily crystal turquoise colour. During our stay we will do also some lovely walks in Vulcano, Filicudi and Stromboli, each with its fascination. We will stay in a suggestive accomodation in the middle of a vineyard facing the stunning view of the sea and of the other Islands, sipping the fantastic local wine on a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea with its memorable sunsets. We will taste local traditional food based on natural products that grow on the isles like capers, rosmary, small tomatoes, basilicum, aubergines, origan and fresh fish and goat cheese all this accompanied by wines produced from native vines such as black Corinth and Malvasia delle Lipari, the latter is a fortified wine which traditionally is accompanied by “sesamini”, typical sesame biscuits.
The famous writer Guy de Maupassant was really impressed by Aeolian wine’s taste and described the Malvasia “ the wine of the vulcanos”.
